Hello Coahoma FFA Boosters and Supporters,
We just got home from Houston this weekend and wrapped up the majority of our stock shows for the year. This year everything was jammed together so I haven’t had the time to brag on our kids and now that I have a minute – that was on the top of my priority list.
Odessa -
Steers – Laurel Nix placed 8th with her Polled Hereford steer and Braxton Iden was Second behind the Reserve Grand Champion of the show. Overall great show.
Ft Worth -
Pigs – Julia Castilaw – 8th Duroc (78 in the class)
Braxton Iden – 9th Crossbred
Brissa Coates – 5th Black OPB (56 in the class)
Fletcher Mashburn also made his first major show here and did a great job!
Goats – Morgan Luce placed with his goat and Ashley Luce also did a great job with her goat.
We also had several really nice steers this year for Ft Worth, unfortunately, none of them made the premium sale. It could certainly be said that if there was a different judge, the results for our kids would have certainly been different.
San Angelo -
Coahoma FFA had several kids try their luck in the sheep and swine barns. Overall it was a great showing by our FFA members.
San Antonio -
Pigs – Kelsey Allen – 4th Dark Crossbred (42 in the class)
Julia Castilaw – 8th Crossbred (38 in the class)
Braxton Iden 10th Landrace
Morgan Pierce 10th Crossbred
Brissa Coates and Emilea and Trey Brumley, and Kacee Allen all had really nice projects as well and did fantastic jobs showing.
Sheep – Brynn Workman – Class winner Southdown (46 in the class)
Morgan Luce and Ashley Luce and Brance Workman also had great lamb projects and you can rest assured they do a great job in the show ring. Brance made one cut, but didn’t get to make the final sale spots available.
Goats – Morgan Luce, Ashley Luce, and Jayden Holt all had great projects and Jayden was as close as you can get to the getting pulled for her first time. The judge actually handled her goat 7 times!
Steers – Braxton had a great Hereford at San Antonio – just didn’t fit the judge this time.
Houston -
Goats – Emilee Custer 9th Lightweight (63 in the class)
Morgan Luce – 10th heavy lightweight (68 in the class)
Ashley Luce got a great look by the judge but didn’t get placed.
Sheep – Morgan Luce, Ashley Luce, Brynn and Brance Workman all had nice sheep in a really tough show.
Pigs – Alex Hill, Gaige Hill, Brissa Coates, Brody Coates, Morgan Luce, Ashely Luce, Emilea Brumley, Emilee Custer, Braxton Iden, and Julia Castilaw all had great projects. Our best placing was Braxton Iden with a 12th Chester.
Steers – Laurel Nix – 7th AOB
Seth Brooks – 6th Polled Hereford
Braxton Iden – 12th AOB
We have a few kids going to Austin but we are glad to be winding down the season. Congratulate all these kids if you see them around. They work really hard at these shows and represent Coahoma ISD very well. I sprinkled in how many animals these kids were showing against just to give you an idea of the level of competition these kids face. Nearly every class we have at a major show has more animals in it than we have in our entire county show. They make me proud again and again.
Thank you to all the teachers that got assignments ready, did extra work explaining assignments, and took the extra steps so these kids could go compete.
I will apologize now for anything I left off this list. I have double checked and triple checked but normally something gets left off.
Thanks,
Aaron Custer
