Due to the rainy weather. The softball series with CC has been moved to Lubbock Cooper HS on Friday at 7:30pm. The following is the series information:

Game 1: Friday, May 11th at Lubbock Cooper HS at 7:30pm

Game 2: Saturday, May 12th at Lubbock Cooper HS at 10:00am

Game 3: If Needed: Saturday, May 12th at Lubbock Cooper HS 30 minutes after Game 2

El Rancho District Banquet and Speaking Events

Hello Coahoma FFA Supporters,

Just wanted to take a minute and brag on our kids – they had a HUGE night last night.

Results from last nights El Rancho District FFA events:

Officers – The following students compete with a quiz, interview and popular vote.

Area II Officer – Laurel Nix – She will be running for Area President on May 18-19 at Area II Convention in Sweetwater.

El Rancho District President – Savannah Neff – She is the 9th out of 10 years Coahoma FFA has held the President office. She has earned the opportunity to serve on Courtesy Corp at our state convention as well. Only 7 kids from our area earn this right.

El Rancho District 1st Vice – Emilea Brumley – Emilea actually tied Laurel in the Area Candidacy and Laurel won with tie breaker being the vote. Emilea showed TONS of heart and even though she was dissappointed about not winning area race, she stayed strong and within minutes ran to serve as district officer. Holding the top two offices is a huge accomplishment Coahoma FFA kids have done 7 times now.

Our speaking events have been something we have been working really hard on. Special thanks to Ms. Carr for her help with manuscripts. Results are as follows:

Jr Prepared Public Speaking

1st – Brody Coates – Area Qualifier

2nd – Brandon Coker – Area Qualifier

3rd – Alex Gibbs

We also had Katie King and Kip Williams in this contest

Sr Prepared Public Speaking

2nd – Kenzie Moore – Area Qualifier

3rd – Shelby Franklin

We also had Morgan Luce and Savannah Neff compete in this contest

Extemp Speaking

1st – Braxton Iden – Area Qualifier

2nd – Chris Biddison – Area Qualifier

3rd – Morgan Pierce

As most of you know, we also advanced Kenzie Moore and Jessi Morgan to the State Level of Scholarship Interviews. Both are in the running for $16,000 TX FFA scholarships.

Also, Morgan Luce, Emilea Brumley, Laurel Nix, and Alex Hill will be applying for a Lone Star Degree. This is the highest degree an FFA member can get at the State Level. Kenzi and Jessi received their Lone Star Degree this past summer.

I am very proud of these kids and the day we had yesterday. Maybe one of the most dominant we have ever had – as a direct result of very hard work. Please – Congratulate them if you see them.

FFA Scholarships

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to give you all some GREAT news! Kenzie Moore and Jessi Morgan have both advanced from the Area level of Scholarship qualification! This has always been the toughest level of competition we face. Both are in the running for a $10,000 to $16,000 Texas FFA Scholarship.

The application will now go to State level where they go through a “paper cut” where some applications are denied for problems with application (our area has only lost 2 in the last 5 years). They are then divided into groups A, B, and C where the following is the scenario -

A – will interview for $16,000 – nearly guaranteed if the interview goes well.

B – Will interview for $10,000 to $16,000 – top end of this group will get $16,000.

C – Interview for $10,000 (a few of these C group will only have the chance to receive $1,000)

Last year, Shelbie Reid earned a $16,000 scholarship from the B grouping.

If you see these girls, please congratulate them. They have worked their high school career for this opportunity.

If Coahoma, Colorado City and Forsan all win their final game on Friday, April 20th, their will be a playoff seeding mini-tourney in Big Spring. Gametimes are as follows:

Game 1: 3:00pm: Coahoma vs. Forsan
Game 2: 30 minutes after Game 1: Winner of Game 1 vs. Colorado City
Game 3: If needed: 30 minutes after Game 2: Colorado City vs. Game 1 loser if CC loses Game 2

ALL 3 TEAMS WILL BE REPRESENTING DISTRICT 3-2A IN THE STATE PLAYOFFS!!!
